1:1 Art Processing
For Healing & Integration
Art is our one true global language. It knows no nation, it favors no race, and it acknowledges no class. It speaks to our need to reveal, heal, and transform. It transcends our ordinary lives and lets us imagine what is possible.” – Richard Kamler
Healing Through Art
This is a guided creative process that uses movement, color, mark making, and journaling to explore what’s happening beneath the surface.
Through grounding somatic practices and intuitive art making, you begin to give shape, texture, and color to internal experiences that may not have words yet. The artwork becomes something you can see, respond to, and learn from. Often it reveals surprising clarity and insight.
There is a beautiful synergy that is arises when creativity is expressed while exploring experiences that have shaped us. Where artistic expression can unearth new territory of discovery in a safe envorinment, with limited verbalizing needed.
An Art Processing Session At A Glance:
We start each session with a check in.
Then we move to somatic movement exercises, which loosen and open the body and mind. This prepares the artist to connect the emotional body with the physical body. Art is also a somatic practice, so we are making space for deeper connection.
From there we will go into various art exercises using prompts and visualizations. Many different art materials are available, giving the artist freedom to express. This may extend into multiple pieces of art that add context, or create communication between the art, or even diffuse the emotional response from a previous piece.
After each art piece, journaling is used to speak with ones subconscious mind through the perspective of the art work. This can allow for new insights.
Before we end the session, we will check back in, using healing touch (energetic balancing techniques that does not involve much touching, as the name implies) we will recalibrate as needed, so you leave feeling grounded. This is deep work, and you may want to allow space for that when scheduling. I recommend taking the art and journal entries with you when you next visit your therapist for deeper discussion. Journaling about your experience can also be very helpful as you proceed. Eight or more sessions are recommended.
