Getting to know me…
I’ve lived and created in the Wood River Valley for over 30 years. For me, art has always been a bridge: between inner experience and outer expression, between quiet intuition and conscious understanding, between who I’ve been and who I’m becoming.
After 25 years of teaching art, I felt called to explore deeper into the healing side of creativity that I have always recognized was there. Through a two-year program in Art Processing, I learned how the body stores emotion and trauma, and how guided somatic arts can help us move these experiences with clarity and compassion. As I moved through the process myself, I felt long-held patterns shifting. I found clearer boundaries, calmer responses, and a deeper sense of confidence and alignment. My family and friends will tell you they see the difference this has made in my mental health.
My intention is to create a safe, steady space where people-no matter their artistic ability- can slow down, express what is inside, and return to themselves with more ease and understanding.
I am not a therapist, and I highly recommend those working with me to have mental health support to help assimilate discoveries made within our sessions.
Hi, I’m Alison Higdon,
A little more about me…
Currently:
I’m a Somatic Arts Practitioner- assisting clients through creative expression to engage in a deeper understanding of themselves..
A Certified Art Processing Facilitator- I found this training to be life changing to my own patterns, limiting beliefs, and past trauma. I feel compelled to share this transformative experience with others.
A Healing Touch Practitioner, assisting in releasing stuck energy, to create greater energetic flow and lessen pain in the body.
An Art companion for those with cognitive decline. Art is used as a therapeutic tool to bring more ease to the nervous system.
Somatic Arts Classes instructor- offering group classes/circles that align with my intention to help others find a deeper understanding of themselves through art.
Previous Life:
Creative Arts Director for Company B Theater Camp and SPACC Performing Art Conservatory Camp for 12 years.
Costume Designer for many local theater companies and schools over the past 17 years. Some of my favorite shows I’ve costumed included; Into The Woods, Cats, Seusical The Musical, Euridice, steam punk Alice In Wonderland, James And The Giant Peach, The Christmas Carol, and most of the Shakespeare In The Park productions. Oh and let’s not forget Little Shop Of Horrors.. including all the Audrey puppets!
Whimsical Window Display Artist-From Fairytales to mannequin head -dresses, stuffed turkeys, and beyond!
Holiday decorator- decking the halls and exteriors for holiday cheer.
Art Teacher-25 years of private art camps, after school classes, encaustic art classes, and more. I love inspiring others to find their own creative expression.
Always Exploring:
Encaustic Artist- playing in molten beeswax, pigment, and resin for over 15 years. My work has been seen in various galleries, studio tours, and numerous juried art festivals ( summer venues not recommended, unless you want a melty mess), and many pieces have found forever homes in private collections across the country.
My favorite mediums to express in currently are clay, acrylic, encaustic, and gouache ( a bit like watercolor, but more opaque and forgiving).
Favorite colors “today”( this is something I’ve done with my students of all ages for years): lime, teal, French rose, and plum.
